The writer, critic, editor, teacher and narrator Luis Chitarroni proposes a tour of the work of the magnificent Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616), commemorating the four hundred years of his death.
A unique opportunity to approach the work of an icon of literature such as Cervantes was and is, led by one of the main figures of national culture and literature, Luis Chitarroni.

The Spanish language in the time of Cervantes. Voluntary and involuntary scaffolding: Tirant Lo Blanc, Amadís de Gaula. The chivalry novel and the reasons for unreasonness. The imposture and the realism? Suppression of conventions, and the creation of others. Outer space: Spanish literature and other literatures. Two Germans touched by the wand: Thomas Mann, Arno Schmidt. The war of one man alone. Birth and development of the novel.

Quijano's library: a world within a world. Outlines, glimpses of relevant history and geography. An itinerary and a follow-up. Exemplary chapters. The psychology at the novel and the theater of the Golden Age. How to give everything? Cervantes as a poet. The knight and the Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Natural concomitances: the parody and the satire.

Some portraits: Aldonza Lorenzo, Dulcinea, Sancho Panza, Cide Hamete Benengeli. Previous topics used with genius and wit. Some contemporaries: Góngora, Quevedo, Lope, Garcilaso, Calderón. Justified absences. The present and modernism: the discourse on weapons and literature.
Wednesday June the 22nd – from 18:30 to 20:00 p.m.
From Cervantes to Borges (excuse moi, Ménard). The novel within the novel. Monumentality and modernity of Don Quixote. From La Mancha to the splash of style. From the novel of ideas to synthetic conceptualism. The reading of Borges’ Quijote. The reading of Groussac and Nabokov. Cervantes and the contemporary novel: Juan Benet, Eduardo Mendoza, Muñoz Molina, Daniel Guebel, Federico Jeanmaire. Cervantes as predecessor of Sterne, Javier Marías, translator of Tristram Shandy. Conclusions, always premature.
LUIS CHITARRONI is a writer, critic, editor, teacher and narrator with a wide and recognized trajectory both nationally and internationally. He began his journey as an editor at the prestigious South American Editorial with Enrique Pezzoni. He continued that journey at Random and is currently at the head of the publisher La Bestia Equilátera.
